Restore the Shape of Your Jaw
When a tooth is lost due to extraction, trauma, or disease, the jaw bone is no longer stimulated and may begin to recede. When bone starts to recede, it creates an uneven jaw line and can even cause surrounding teeth to shift into the gap. Dr. John Thousand offers ridge augmentation to add bone to where it was lost. This not only benefits the shape of your jaw, but if you were interested in getting dental implants, ridge augmentation adds the necessary amount of bone for adequate implant placement.
Symptoms of Bone Loss
- Missing one or more teeth
- Put off tooth replacement for months or years
- Bite problems
- Crooked, uneven, or shifting teeth
- An uneven appearance in the jaw
Adequate Bone Volume is Necessary for Dental Implants
Having an adequate amount of bone volume is important not only for the physical appearance of your jaw, but for placing dental implants too. An implant post requires enough bone to hold it in place properly so it does not risk failure. We use dental implants in a variety of ways to replace missing teeth. You can receive single, multiple, fixed bridges, and even full arch replacement of teeth with dental implants—only if you have the proper amount of bone. Ridge augmentation can provide you with that bone volume to allow for implant placement.
The Ridge Augmentation Procedure
When receiving a ridge augmentation, Dr. Thousand will place bone grafting material where bone has been lost. This graft will fuse with your existing bone and create a healthy, stable and adequate amount of bone volume. We utilize plasma rich growth factors that assist in the healing process and can increase the success of the procedure. While the procedure is minimally invasive and uses local anesthesia to block pain, we do offer sedation options to help with anxiety.
